How do I make an APPOINTMENT for a tattoo?
We make all appointments in person at the shop. Appointments are super easy to set up, just stop in to the shop and talk to one of us and we will take care of you. Appointments are made in person to give everyone the quality and custom tattoo they deserve.
We make all appointments in person at the shop to make sure we schedule enough time to have a great drawing, and do a top quality tattoo. There are a lot of particulars to work out for a tattoo: exact sizing, fit on your body, details in the tattoo, and everything else that make a tattoo a perfect fit for you specifically. Talking with you in person is the best way to make the best tattoo for you. Appointments are recommended, especially for mid to larger sized tattoos, and multi-session tattoos.
Deposits for Appointments: Depending on the amount of drawing and preparation time involved, there is a $50-100 (depending on size of tattoo) non-refundable deposit for all appointments. The deposit comes off the final price of the tattoo. 24 Hour notice is required to make any appointment changes or deposit is forfeited.
Do you accept WALK-INS for tattooing?
YES!! We accommodate as many walk-ins as we can! Generally, walk-ins are tattoos that take two hours or less with drawing time, which is about a palm to hand sized tattoos or smaller. We do them on a first come first serve basis and tattoo the next client waiting, so come early, especially on weekends! If your tattoo will take more drawing time or tattoo time we can see if we can get you in with another artist that day or we can set up an appointment for another day.
Artists rotate walk-ins on Fridays and Saturdays you can call the shop at 217-367-5320 and see when a certain artist is doing walk-ins.
Appointments are recommended, as our artists do stay very busy, which is a good sign for you getting the tattoo, that means our artists have a great reputation and a lot dedicated clients. We do our best to tattoo as many walk-in clients as we can get in between our appointments, or when we have cancellations, and at the same time we are committed to not rushing any tattoos and giving everyone the time they deserve for a great tattoo. We set up all walk-ins at the shop on a first come first serve basis. This way we can talk to you in person about sizes, location, and your personal design and make sure we allow enough time for a great drawing and a great tattoo.
Do I need an appointment to get tattooed?
Appointments are recommended, but we do walk-ins everyday! Appointments are good for mid to larger sized tattoos, multi-session tattoos, cover-ups, or if you want to get in with a specific artist on a specific day. Otherwise, we do walk-ins everyday!
What is a CONSULTATION and how do I set one up?
Consultations are recommended for tattoos that may involve some extra drawing time, such as a cover-up or large scale tattoos, sleeves, etc. A consultation is time to talk one on one with an artist and get the details ironed out so everything is ready and we book the proper amount of time for the appointment. Come on into the shop to set set up a consultation. The tattoo appointment is then made after the consultation time, once we get all of the details worked out.
I am from out of town, can I set up an appointment?
We have several options for people who live out of town:
1. Walk-in: You can stop in and do a walk-in the day you are in town, we set those up in person at the shop. Come early, especially on a weekend! We do walk-ins first come first serve and are a 2 hour or less tattoo including drawing time. We have select artist doing walk-in tattoos everyday, and rotate on Saturday. If there is time, all the artists will do walk-in tattoos!
2. Stop in and make an appointment: Stop down in person at the shop as soon as you get in town and we can set up a time to get tattooed; sometimes we have time that day, and most times we can set up an appointment a few days out if you are still in town. (some artists will book out months in advance you can always call to get an estimate of their scheduling). We make all appointments in person at the shop to make sure we schedule enough time to have a great drawing, and do a top quality tattoo.
3. Make a consultation and then an appointment: You can come in to the shop and make a consultation with your artist when you are in town. During the consultation your artist can take exact measurements and layout for the tattoo and then we can make an appointment for next time you are in town. This works really well for large multi-session tattoos, cover-ups, and tattoos that require some extra drawing preparation time. We make all appointments in person at the shop to make sure we schedule enough time to have a great drawing, and do a top quality tattoo.

Do you use new needles and pigments?
Absolutely. All needles are new. Always. All equipment is single service, which means that each needle and tube set is individually packaged, dated, sealed and sterilized. Ointments, pigments, needles, gloves, razors, plastic barriers, and ink caps used in applying your new tattoo are discarded after use. After the tattoo is finished, the artist disinfects the work area with a chemical that kills all viruses and bacteria.
How do you sterilize your equipment?
An autoclave. It is the only acceptable means of equipment sterilization in the tattoo shop. They work by using a combination of heat, steam, and pressure to kill pathogenic microorganisms. We keep detailed logs of the autoclave use, and our autoclave’s efficiency is tested and monitored monthly by an outside laboratory.

Our portfolios are proudly displayed in our lobby, and ON OUR WEBSITE HERE . We encourage you to look for a tattooer whose style you like best. We have an experienced crew of diverse artists known for quality tattoos. We can help you find the person best suited for the tattoo you are looking for.
Is NewLife Tattoos a licensed Shop?
Yes! We have been licensed and in busines since 2001 we are the oldest established shop in Champaign . Getting a tattoo by an amateur in their home can be very dangerous, especially if they have no knowledge of sterilization or safe operating procedures. The money spent on a professional tattoo studio is well worth the assurance that the only thing you will get is a tattoo.
Is there anything I should do before I get tattooed or pierced?
Yes, be well rested and eat well. Drink plenty of fluids. Bring your VALID ID and wear appropriate clothing. Mostly though, just relax and have a good time.
Is there anything I shouldn't do before I get tattooed or pierced?
Do not drink alcohol, do not be sunburned, and do not take drugs other than prescribed by you doctor. (any drugs including aspirin, etc.)
Does it hurt?
This is a very popular question. In a professional environmentthe process isannoying, and stings a bit. The more relaxed you are the easier the process, and within a few minutes your body will release endorphins (which are natural pain killers) that ease your discomfort. The experience is different for everyone and everyone’s definition of the discomfort will be different. It is impossible to say exactly how it will feel for you. Generally, everyone does just fine. Some spots do hurt worse than others. A few general rules do apply. The more muscular areas (upper arm or calf) will hurt less than the bonier areas (elbow or ribs). Sensitive parts of your body will sting a bit more to get tattooed. It really is best to get tattooed where you want it, based on your aesthetics. The placement of the tattoo is solely up to you, because the tattoo will be there long after the pain fades. If it were that painful, people wouldn't keep coming back for a second, and third, and fourth, and, on and on
Can you make this tattoo smaller?
Yes, we are skilled enough to make a tattoo really small and detailed, but that will not make a good tattoo. No matter who applies the tattoo, or how a tattoo is applied, the ink will migrate a bit over time. A tattoo is inside of skin cells and not on top of paper. Lines applied too close to one another will blur together, and in some cases alter lettering or destroy a design a few years or even months down the road. Your tattooer is a professional and we want your tattoo to look good. Of course we are skilled enough to make a very small tattoo, but not at the expense of doing a bad tattoo. A large part of the art of tattooing is to make a tattoo that looks good for a lifetime. Listen to your tattooer's advice and make your tattoo a size that will last and be enjoyed for years.
Can I bring in my some pictures and reference material or my own design?
Of course! We work with your ideas! Bring in whatever will help us get an idea of what you are looking for. If it is in digital format(on your phone), we recommend bringing in a hard copy(on a piece of paper) for your artist to make the best use of your time with your artist.
